The building that is now the Old Bankhouse Bed and Breakfast was originally built in 1864, in the quiet village of Old Deer, approximately 9 miles west of Peterhead, and 13 miles south of Fraserburgh. This picturesque Aberdeenshire village nestles in the heart of Buchan farmland, close to the river Ugie, and is steeped in a wealth of religious and domestic history, dating back to St. Columba in the 6th century.

Nearby Cruden Bay is one, famous for its championship golf course, lovely golden beach, and Slains Castle, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Close by are The Loch of Strathbeg, Troup Head, and The Sands of Forvie Nature Reserve, a must for bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

- From Fraserburgh take the A952 South (Aberdeen) to Mintlaw. At the roundabout, take the third exit (A950) for New Pitsligo. After 1 mile, turn left onto B9030 for Old Deer.
Getting here from Aberdeen
- From Aberdeen take the A92 North (Peterhead / Fraserburgh), and follow Fraserburgh signs (A952) to Mintlaw. At the roundabout, take the first exit (A950) for New Pitsligo. After 1 mile, turn left onto the B9030 for Old Deer. Follow the road into the village, and The Old Bankhouse Bed and Breakfast is on the right hand side of the road.
